VIENNA, 2nd December, 2018 (WAM) -- The Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology, organised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at its headquarters in Vienna, adopted a "Ministerial Declaration", stressing the importance of nuclear science, technology and applications in achieving sustainable development goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan.
In the document, Member States recognised the contribution and potential of nuclear science and technology applications to meet a wide range of development needs in the social, economic, human and environmental fields, including the sectors of power generation, industry, food and agriculture, human health and natural resource management.
At the three-day conference, ministers, policy makers, scientists, experts and stakeholders discussed the contribution of nuclear technology and applications to achieve sustainable development goals and addressing development challenges.
Ministers and state delegates discussed their national experiences and participated in high-level panel discussions that reviewed recent technological innovations that help Member States to address problems and challenges in various fields, including climate change, food security, industrial applications, radiotherapy and the control of chronic and infectious diseases.
