Oman- Asian Champions Trophy: Pakistan coach Saqlain called back after row with Sardar

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) India-Pakistan hockey matches are known to bring out a lot of passion and emotions not just among the fans but also among players and, at times, among the coaching staff.

And on Saturday, during the high-octane clash between India and Pakistan, which the former won 3-1 in the ongoing fifth edition of the Asian Champions Trophy at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, emotions boiled over as Pakistan coach Muhammad Saqlain is reported to have misbehaved with head coach Hasan Sardar, over the handling of the match.

An eye-witness and a member of the Pakistan team confirmed to Muscat Daily that Saqlain and Sardar, both former captains, were involved in a heated argument, which almost got ugly but for the intervention of few officials.

'Saqlain should not have been rude to a head coach and a legend like Sardar,' he told Muscat Daily, ahead of Pakistan's game against the hosts, on Monday.

Upset over the incident, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) secretary, Shahbaz Ahmed Sr, recalled Saqlain back to Pakistan.

Saqlain left Muscat on Sunday and is reported to have met senior PHF officials on Monday. 'An inquiry will be conducted when the team returns home,' Shahbaz Sr was quoted as saying in Pakistan media on Monday.
