German opposition asks government to take harsher stance against S. Arabia

(MENAFN) Germany's opposition Left Party has asked the authorities to stop weapons sales to Saudi Arabia over the missing Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi case.

Dietmar Bartsch, parliamentary group leaders of the party, abruptly criticized Chancellor Angela Merkel's government for not having stricter posture against Riyadh.

On Thursday, Bartsch affirmed in an interview with public television ARD, "The current soft approach of the government, which appears to be due to the big economic deals, is simply not acceptable".

He said, "One has to stop weapons sales to Saudi Arabia. How one can continue this with such a dictatorship".
