Qatar- Once a salesman, now a successful businessman

From being a salesman in the 1990's, to now becoming a successful businessman Mahendra Chamlagai (pictured) has come a long way.

After a long period of hard work and unwavering determination, he has reached a point in his professional life where he is an inspiration not only to his compatriots but also to others who dream to do something big in life.

Mahendra Chamlagai is now a Managing Director of Woodland Contracting and General Services which offers manpower solutions to firms in Qatar. He is also Chairman of Qatar Nepal Business Association.

Back home in Nepal, he owns a three-star hotel with 45 rooms in Birtamod town which is around 440 kilometre east of Nepal's capital Kathmandu. He also runs an English medium boarding school with 950 students and 100 staff members.

'I came to Qatar in 1996 looking for a job and started my work as a salesman for a local company. I always wanted to be an entrepreneur and wanted have my own business, Chamlagai told The Peninsula.

After stepping into the shoes of a businessman, he decided to do something to help entrepreneurs of Nepal and to enhance business relations between Qatar and Nepal.

This idea led to the formation of Qatar Nepal Business Association.

'Qatar Nepal Business Association was set up to strengthen the business relations between Qatar and Nepal. We aim to work as a bridge between businessmen of both the countries, said Chamlagai.

In April this year, Qatar Chamber and Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation and exchange of information and meetings.

A delegation from Nepal led by Vice-President of Nepalese Chamber Bhaskar Raj Rajkarnikar had come to Qatar to sign the agreement and Chamlagai played an important role in bring the delegation here.

The agreement aims to encourage businessmen from both sides to establish investment partnerships that would push forward and promote the bilateral relations in the commercial sector in both countries.

'There is a huge potential of growth in Qatar-Nepal relations in the field of business and trade. Qatari businessmen can explore opportunities in the field of hydro-power, roads and food sector. Businessmen from Nepal can explore opportunities in construction sector and other related sectors in Qatar, added Chamlagai.

One of the aims of the association is to solve the problems faced by entrepreneurs of Nepal. 'There are entrepreneurs in Nepal who want to do business in Qatar but lack knowledge about rules and other processes in Qatar. We help them to understand the rules and regulations of Qatar, he said.
