Philippines: eight die in landslide

(MENAFN) Authorities declared that over eight people have been killed as dozens others were uncounted for in a landslide sparked by heavy downpours in Naga City in the central Philippine Cebu province.

Carmelino Cruz, Naga City councilor confirmed that around 50 to 80 people are suspected to have been stranded in the landslide.

He added that the land remains soft, making it harder for rescue operations to conduct, as "Every now and then you can feel the ground vibrate."

"Our main concern is search and rescue. We would like to concentrate on saving as many as we can," according to Cruz.
