Lebanon chief lawmaker denounces malign activities against Kuwait

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, Sept 15 (KUNA) -- Lebanon "vehemently rejects" any derogatory remarks directed at Kuwait and its leader His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, its top lawmaker Nabih Berri said on Saturday.
"We will never forget or cease appreciating the support Kuwait has shown us in times of adversity," Berri said in a statement.
Lebanon's prime minister-designate Saad Al-Hariri has stood by the Gulf state as well, saying that Beirut is eternally grateful to Kuwait for "a long history of friendship." "What was said on television yesterday runs counter to the consensus amongst the Lebanese people, which is based on respect and admiration towards Kuwait," a statement released by his office cited him as saying.
A Lebanese court has launched an investigation into alleged incendiary comments made by a local TV host against Kuwait.
Kuwait's information ministry said on Friday that it was appalled by the Lebanese TV presenter's scathing remarks over His Highness the Amir's recent meeting with US President Donald Trump.
In a statement, the ministry said that the TV host's words were distorted facts and part of a deliberate smear campaign unreflective of the camaraderie shared between Kuwait and Lebanon. (end) wsm.nam
