Qatar- MEC spots 91 violations

DOHA: The inspection campaign held by the representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) in August, resulted in seizure and issuance of 91 violations.

The violations ranged from failing to advertise the prices, place cards on the discounted goods explaining the price before and after the reduction, clearly show service information, features and specialties, advertise prices in Arabic. The inspection also found violations that included charging a price higher than the advertised price and not issuing invoices.

The penalties included administrative closure and financial fines which vary between QR5,000 and QR30,000 according to the laws and decisions governing the work of consumer protection departments.

The inspections are part of the ministry's keenness to regulate and monitor the markets and commercial activities in the country with the aim of controlling prices and detecting violations to protect consumer rights.

The ministry confirmed it will be firm against all those negligent and not complying with the consumer protection laws and its executive regulations. It also confirmed it will intensify its inspection campaigns to control such practices.
