Akshay Kumar's 'Gold' will release on Independence Day.

However, the filmmakers wished to celebrate free India's first gold medal. The medal was won on August 12, 1948 by the hockey team on British soil.

In honor, different iconic venues across the country would wear the shade of gold.

It is a sign of respect and honor to the victory, and obviously a good promotional stunt.

Three days before the release, the film-making team pays homage to India's first gold medal as a free country.

As a mark of respect, iconic venues will take the golden color from 7 pm today.

Some of the venues that will be decked up include- Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai, Statue Circle in Jaipur, and Prinsep Memorial in Kolkata.
