Katara the Cultural Village is showcasing 50 stunning pictures by Qatari photographer Ali al-Shamsi at an exhibition, which opened on Wednesday at the Katara Youth Hobby Centre (Building 18).
The exhibition, titled 'African Safari, displays pictures of wild animals and nature, selected from the photographer's collection of his safari trips in Africa.
'It is such a beautiful exhibition and the photographer made so much effort and risked his life to come with those fine photographs, said Katara general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, who led the opening of the exhibition attended by several dignitaries and officials.
'We always welcome and support these talented and ambitious youths, Dr al-Sulaiti added.
The 26-year-old al-Shamsi, who started photography a few years ago, said he is self-taught in this field and acquired his skills from renowned Kuwaiti photographer Majed Sultan.
'He inspired and taught me many techniques on using cameras and choosing the best photo frame, al-Shamsi noted.

Photos exhibited at Katara feature wild animals such as lions, cheetahs and deer, with fabulous camera effects and techniques.
'Taking one of these photos was a tricky task that needed a lot of patience, so I might wait for four hours to snap one good photo, but at the end of the day I am so proud of this effort, said al-Shamsi, who contributed four photographs for National Geographic.
'I consider this a big success for me.
