South clashes leave 8 security men, 15 rebels dead


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KANDAHAR/QALAT (Pajhwok): At least seven Taliban militants and eight security forces have been killed in clashes in southern Kandahar and Zabul provinces, officials said on Thursday.

Seven militants and two policemen were killed and nine rebels and five policemen wounded during a clash in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar late Wednesday night, the governor€™s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Dawood Ahmad said the clash in Srochakan area near the Durand Line lasted until Thursday morning. He said the attackers had penetrated from the other side of the border where they enjoyed sanctuaries.

In Zabul province, Taliban stormed an Afghan Local Police (ALP) check-post in Ishaqzai Manda area of Shahr-i-Safa district late on Wednesday night.

Six ALP men were killed and two others were wounded and the militants seized some weapons and ammunition, Abdul Samad Durrani, the district administrative chief, said.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the clashes.
