New Delhi, Apr 21 (KNN) Aiming to build a more prosperous, more equal and more secure world by 2030, the Tamil Nadu government directed its departments to include 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) in its policy notes.

Following the NITI Aayog directions to states to map their schemes in coordination with SDGs, Tamil Nadu comes up with this agenda of covering SDGs in policy notes as a part of capacity development initiative.

Apart from including SDGs in policy notes, the states is also planning to conduct training programs with the help of NITI Aayog in order to familiarize the heads of departments with the planning, implementation and monitoring of SDGs.

Similarly, a two-day program is to be conducted by the State Institute of Rural Development in Marimalai Nagar with a view to sensitize district-level officials of rural development, health, education, industry, MSMEs, agriculture, animal husbandry and dairy and forest about the same.

The objective is to take India on high growth trajectories basing the state growth on the SDG agenda to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Many of the government's flagship programs such as Swachh Bharat, Make in India, Skill India and Digital India are at the core of SDGs.

The 193-Member United Nation General Assembly formally adopted the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development Goal that includes 17 SDGs and 169 targets in September 2015, which came into effect on January 1st, 2016.

The SDGs and targets key areas include poverty, hunger, education, health and well-being, gender equality, water and sanitation, energy, economic growth and decent work, infrastructure, industry and innovation, reducing inequalities, sustainable cities, consumption and production, climate action, ecosystems, peace and justice and partnership.
