Many honoured on ICBF Day

DOHA: Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) organised the annual ‘ICBF Day' to recognise and felicitate the work of men & women who support ICBF in its noble endeavours. Prestigious awards including Kanjani Award, which is the highest of its order, were presented. The Kanjani award is given by Kanjani family in the name of M A Kanjani who was the founder of ICBF Qatar.

Humanitarian & Appreciation awards are given to deserving individuals/organisations for selflessly serving the community. In addition to this, three more awards were added this year; The Abdul Hameed Memorial award in memory of past president Abdul Hameed, and Long Time Service Award.

This year the event was held in association with DPS-MIS at DPS-MIS Auditorium on March 16. P Kumaran, patron of ICBF, was the chief guest. The Ambassador of Nepal, Ramesh Prasad Koirala, was the guest of honour. The event was attended by the Kanjani family, apex body presidents and management committee members, community leaders, ICBF members and prospective members.

The Kanjani Award was given to a longtime supporter of ICBF, Director of Norka, philanthropist, businessman and educationist, C V Rappai.

The ICBF- KP Abdul Hameed Award for long term community service and social work was given to Mohammad Essa.

Long Term Community Service Awards were given to Arvind Patil and Abdul Salam. Humanitarian awards were given to Sister Reena Thomas, Ali Akbar, Noordheen Kotti Lingal and Sister Shubi Abraham. Special Appreciation Awards (Qatari Nationals) were given to Abdul Rahim Al Mushiri, Administrative Specialist, Medical Commission, and Colonel Ghanem Saad Al Khayarin, Head of External branches, Community Policing Department, Ministry of Interior. Appreciation awards were given to Al Muftah Contracting Company, Telugu Kala Samiti, Viqaya - a voluntary social service organisation, Joseph & Sharon Coutinho, Hasmukh Patel and Yoga in Doha.

P Kumaran, Ambassador of India to Qatar, appreciated the efforts by the President of ICBF, Devis Edukulathur, and his dedicated team of Management Committee members in helping the needy. A special mention of P N Baburajan, Vice-President of ICBF, was made for being the backbone for the entire event.

Popular FM radio personality Anu Sharma hosted the function. The celebrations included the staging of first ever Hindi / Urdu musical ballet in Doha, 'Heer Ranjha by Sameer Moosa & team and the display of paintings by Dr Sreekumar Padmanabhan. The official Radio Partner was 89.6 One FM.
