GATE 2018: Farmer's son tops India in Chemistry

Prashant Gupta, a farmer's son from Lucknow, has secured the All India Rank 1 in Chemistry in the 2018 Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), the results of which were declared on Friday.
Prashant, who likes to read and play cricket, secured 71.67% out of 100 marks.
GATE 2018 was conducted in February by IIT Guwahati.

"Though my father is a farmer, he wholeheartedly supported my dream to pursue higher studies. I shall remain grateful to him. It's time for me to celebrate this moment of joy with him and the rest of my family members," said Prashant.
Gupta comes from a UP Board school
Background
24-year-old Prashant Gupta completed Class 10 from a UP Board school in Bakshi Ka Talab area of Lucknow.
He graduated from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in 2015, and went on to complete his post-graduation from IIT Delhi in 2017.
He is now contemplating penning a book on how to crack the GATE exam in a bid to help future aspirants.
Prashant is looking to fill a gap for GATE aspirants

"I do not want other GATE aspirants to suffer. After what all I had gone through, I decided to write a book that will be a ready reckoner for aspirants on how to crack the examination," said Prashant, highlighting the need of good GATE books.

Qualifying in GATE enables candidates to apply for admission, as well as financial assistance, to master's programmes and direct doctoral programmes in the fields of engineering, technology, architecture and other relevant fields of sciences in all MHRD and government-supported institutions.
Scores are valid for three years.
