King meets Speaker of the Greek Parliament


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Mar. 14 (Petra)-His Majesty King Abdullah II received at Al-Husseiniya Palace on Wednesday Speaker of the Greek Parliament, Nicholas Voutsis, for a meeting on Jordanian-Greek relations and ways to push them forward to higher levels.

During the meeting, attended by Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Atef Tarawneh, talks stressed the need to expand cooperation between the two countries, especially in the legislative and economic fields.

The discussions also highlighted investment privileges offered by the Jordanian economy and opportunities to benefit from the Kingdom's strategic location and its free trade agreements signed with many countries.

King Abdullah stressed the importance of building on the outcomes of the tripartite summit held in the Cypriot capital, Nicosia, earlier this year, which brought together Jordan, Cyprus and Greece, in a manner that contributes to boost their joint partnership and cooperation ties and to achieve security and stability in the region.

The meeting also tackled developments related to the Palestinian cause as the King Abdullah stressed the necessity of intensifying efforts aimed at reviving the peace process between the Palestinians and the Israelis based on the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative and international legitimacy resolutions, in a bid to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Discussions also touched on the challenges facing churches in Jerusalem and Jordan's role in protecting Islamic and Christian sites in the holy city under the Hashemite custodianship.

Crises in the region and efforts to reach political solutions to them, as well as the war on terror, as a part of a holistic strategy, were also reviewed.

Royal Court Chief Dr. Fayez Tarawneh, Advisor to His Majesty, Director of the King's Office, Manar Dabbas, Chairman of the Jordanian-Greek Parliamentary Friendship Committee MP, Nassar Al-Qaisi, Greek Ambassador here Vassilios Bronovs and Voutsis's accompanying delegation attended the meeting.
