(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): For lack of consensus among member states, a global watchdog has deferred putting Pakistan on the international terror financing watchlist.
Supported by France, Britain and Germany, the US-led motion to put the country on the watchlist was taken up by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) at its meeting in Paris.
Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif tweeted on Wednesday: €œUndoubtedly, Pakistan has made determined efforts to avoid the unjustified US bid to place the country on the global list of countries that finance terrorism.€
The minister said Islamabad, through a diplomatic approach to avert being added to the list, won a last-minute reprieve at the meeting, where senior Pakistani officials pleaded their case.
There was no consensus on nominating Pakistan. Khawaja Asif said, thanking €œfriends who helped in the process€. The meeting proposed a €œthree months pause€ and asked for the Asia Pacific Group to consider another report in June.
