Protesting Faryab residents seek action against militants


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) MIMANA (Pajhwok): Residents of the Sherin Tagab district of northwestern Faryab province on Tuesday took to the street and closed Maimana-Mazar-i-Sharif highway.

The protestors asked the provincial government to conduct operations to eradicate militant hideouts in the district. They warned of continued peaceful protest if the demand was not met.

Mohammad Dawood Junbish, a tribal leader and participant of the demonstration, said they would continue their protest until all 131 villagers were purged of insurgents.

Provincial police headquarters also confirmed the closure of the Maimana-Mazar highway by the inhabitants, who sought improved security in the district.
