Colombo, December 13 (Avas): Maldives has been once again elected to chair the Colombo Plan Council - which was formed by Commonwealth to help facilitate a joint framework for Asia-Pacific countries to band together to assist and aid the countries.
Maldives embassy at Sri Lanka Lanka on Wednesday stated that Maldives was elected to chair the council during the session held on Tuesday - which marked the council's 293rd session. Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka Mohamed Hussain Shareef will be chairing the council of behalf of Maldives while he will be heading the council's administration and financial committees.
Colombo Plan Council was set up in 1950 during a conference of Commonwealth Nations' Foreign Ministers in Colombo. The council officially started its work a year later on July 1, 1951.
