Bangladesh PM thanks Kuwait for power project donation

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina Wazed thanked Kuwait for its generous KD 15 million (USD 49 million) donation to help fund Shikalbaha power project in her country.

During a televised broadcast at the site of the project east of Bangladesh, Wazed also expressed gratitude towards the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) for its numerous contributions to the development of Bangladesh.

Delivering a statement during the project's opening ceremony, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Bangladesh Adel Hayat said that the project would help increase the capacity of Bangladesh's national electric network to around 225 megawatts.

KFAED provided 17 percent of the total cost of the project which is estimated at USD 301 million (around KD 91 million), said the Ambassador. (end) aab.gta
