National Museum of Oman to lend two items to the Louvre Museum in UAE


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The National Museum of Oman has signed an agreement to loan two historical items to the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi. Jamal al Mousawi, director of National Museum of Oman signed the agreement with Mohammed Khalifa al Mubarak, chairman of the Department of Culture and tourism of UAE.

Speaking to Muscat Daily Mousawi said, 'The National Museum of Oman will lend two of its items to the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi for two years.' The first item is a sea-shell shaped incense burner with pieces of frankincense (luban) from the Islamic period. It will be exhibited in the frankincense route section. The second one is a collection of Islamic coins called Al Waqaba (Treasure in Arabic).

These were found in the Sadamah village and belong to the period between 8BC-13BC. These coins signify the leading commercial and cultural role played by Oman during the period. Mousawi said that the Louvre Museum will highlight the cultural role of the sultanate through the ages as a bridge between the East and the West.
