Oman- MoTC seminar focuses on challenges, opportunities in the maritime sector


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC), represented by the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs, on Sunday organised a seminar on 'The development of maritime businesses in the sultanate'.

It aimed at discussing the challenges facing companies operating in the maritime sector and means of developing the maritime tourist facades. Addressing the gathering, H E Said bin Hamdoon al Harthy, Undersecretary for Ports and Maritime Affairs in MoTC said that the seminar comes as part of a programme implemented by the ministry.

He affirmed that such seminars provide a platform for meeting with relevant stakeholders to develop the maritime activities sector in the sultanate and address the challenges and difficulties facing them.

He affirmed the importance of development and growth of the maritime activities sector in the sultanate, especially to support the growth of tourism industry. He pointed out that the sea compliments the tourism sector in the sultanate. He stressed the need to provide tourists with quality service.

The seminar discussed the challenges and difficulties facing companies operating in the maritime sector and means of developing the maritime tourist facades. The seminar, which also discussed means of developing the yacht tourism sector, shed light on the opportunities available for SMEs in the field of servicing the leisure yachts. A number of directors general and specialists from the relevant public and private sector firms and tourism clubs took part in the seminar.
