Qatar- Emir denounces siege ready for talks

Jakarta:Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said that Qatar is always ready for dialogue to resolve the Gulf crisis because 'there is no winner, we are all brothers and we are all losers due to this crisis, and therefore Qatar is open to dialogue in accordance with agreements binding on all parties to respect the sovereignty of states.

The Emir indicated that the unjust siege on Qatar and its humanitarian effects of the current Gulf crisis on the people of Qatar and the Gulf countries were discussed during his talks with President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.

Speaking at a joint press conference yesterday with Widodo after the signing ceremony of agreements at the Bogor Presidential Palace in Jakarta, the Emir expressed pleasure over his visit to Indonesia, noting that 'Indonesia is an important country in our Islamic world.

The Emir indicated that issues of mutual interest were addressed during the talks especially in the areas of investment, infrastructure, energy and tourism; noting that agreement was signed between the two countries to complete the follow-up of the topics that have been agreed upon.

The Emir's talks with Indonesian President dealt with several areas, including the Rohingya issue and their suffering, adding that there must be an urgent solution and that Qatar has provided assistance and this is the duty of countries to provide assistance to affected people. The Emir also said that the Myanmar government must put an end to this problem. The Emir wished the Indonesian President and people further success, bilateral relations and further consolidation for the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.

The Indonesian President, on his part, expressed his pleasure at receiving the Emir, describing the Emir's visit as a very important event as it is the first state visit of the Emir to the Republic of Indonesia and it is a symbolic visit as it coincides with the passage of 41 years of the Qatari-Indonesian diplomatic relations.

During the talks the two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation, especially in the infrastructure and tourism sectors, and agreed to follow up what they have discussed during the meetings.

President Widodo also referred to the Indonesian community residing in Qatar and their contribution to the development, pointing out that the two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation and maintain the unity of the nation in the face of various challenges.

The Emir and Widodo attended the signing of a number of agreements and memorandum of understanding (MoUs) between the governments of the two countries at the Bogor Presidential Palace. Agreements included signing of a MoU for the establishment of a joint committee to deepen and develop cooperation between the two countries on political, economic, social, cultural, tourism, technological, navigational, agricultural and industrial areas and banking and financial services.

The leaders also attended the signing of air services agreement and MoU for enhancing cooperation in the field of health, MoU on cooperation in the fields of youth and sports, and a MoU on education between the Ministries of Education.

Earlier, the Emir was accorded an official reception ceremony at Bogor Presidential Palace in Jakarta. The Indoesian President led well wishers to welcome the Emir upon arrival at the Presidential Palace and Qatar and Indonesian national anthems were played upon the Emir's arrival at the Palace Square.

During the ceremony the Emir reviewed the Guard of Honor. A 21-gunshot salute was also fired. The Emir also attended a luncheon banquet hosted by President Joko Widodo in honour of the Emir and the accompanying delegation at Bogor Presidential Palace.
