7 Taliban militants, policeman killed in Paktia clash


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Seven militants and one policeman were killed during a clash in southeastern Paktia province, police said on Monday.

Deputy police chief Col. Nisar Ahmad Abdulrahimzai told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban militants ambushed a security forces convoy in Shekhan area of the capital, Gardez, late on Sunday night.

One policeman was killed and another was wounded after coming under attack, but the security forces returned fire killing seven attackers and wounding eight more.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, confirmed the clash and said 13 security personnel had been killed and two others held by their fighters.

He said a tank belonging to security forces was destroyed and nine weapons captured by the Taliban during the clash.

On the other hand, Sardar Wali Tabasom, the governor€™s spokesman, said the Taliban stormed a security check-post in Shaikhan district on Monday morning.

The security forces suffered no casualties but two schoolteachers were slightly wounded during the attack, he added.
