Facebook adds new live location feature in Messenger app

(MENAFN) Facebook Inc announced it is adding a feature to its new Messenger app which allows users to share their locations continuously for up to an hour, ramping up competition with tools offered by Apple Inc and Alphabet Inc's Google Maps.

Head of product for Messenger, Stan Chudnovsky, said that the company found the most used phrase on Messenger as people talk to each other is "How far away are you?".

And he said: "It happens to be what people are saying, what they're interested in the most."

On the other hand, Google Maps earlier said that it was adding a similar feature as an attempt to boost engagement on a product of increasing strategic importance to the company.
