Increased footfall in Oman's museums during 2014: NCSI


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Museums in the sultanate saw increased footfall last year as compared to 2013 registering a growth of 6.9 per cent according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

As many as 245221 people visited museums in 2014 as compared to 229469 in 2013. According to NCSI figures August recorded the highest number with 44314 visitors.

Of these the Museum of the Frankincense Land in Dhofar governorate saw the maximum number of  visitors followed by  Bait al Zubair Museum and the Children's Museum.

Despite this the number of visitors to the Museum of the Frankincense Land saw a 4.7 per cent fall - from 101616 in 2013 to 94068 in 2014. July saw 10560 visitors to the museum with the number going up to 38690 in August.

The Bait al Zubair Museum saw 12.7 per cent more visitors last year at 85310 compared to 75676 in 2013. Statistics show that March recorded the highest number of visitors to this museum (21410). The lowest was in July - only 697 visitors. The number of visitors to the Children's Museum also saw a drop of 5.5 per cent compared to 2013.

As many as 21893 people visited this museum in 2014 against 23173 in 2013. January saw the highest number of visitors (3161) while the month of July saw just 415 visitors.
