(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Charity (QC) and Education Above All (EAA), a global initiative of
H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, have signed a memorandum of understanding to support out-of-school children worldwide and embark on joint action in countries targeted by EAA's Educate A Child programme.
The five-year renewable agreement was signed at QC's headquarters by Yusuf bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, CEO, QC, and Marcio Barbosa, CEO, EAA.
Al Kuwari said the deal supports children's right to education at a time when growing numbers are being denied access to basic education in many parts of the world. He said all people need to join forces to change this situation.
He stressed that QC supports education as a pillar of human progress and development. He said the organisation finances and supports educational projects in many countries through 18 offices in three continents.
Al Kuwari highlighted benefits of the agreement to QC and its efforts to build schools and sponsor children and teachers.
"In Educate A Child programme, we found a great opportunity for cooperation to support out-of-school children worldwide".
Both sides will hold joint fund-raisers for projects and activities in six countries - Syria, Gaza in Palestine, Yemen, South Sudan, Pakistan and Bangladesh. They will also seek to enable children in these countries to enrol in schools to complete their basic education.
They will hold cultural activities in the countries and open bank accounts to collect donations for the initiative and announce how people can donate in Qatar.
Barbosa said: "We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with QC, one of the most successful global impact organisations in the region, and are certain it will result in acceleration in access to educational programme for out-of-school children in the focus markets.
"It is in line with H H Sheikha Moza's commitment to expand access to 10 million children by the end of the 2015/16 school year through the programme".
H H Sheikha Moza launched Educate A Child in 2012 to reduce the number of children worldwide who are denied their right to education. It was launched during World Innovation Summit on Education in Qatar in November, attended by hundreds of decisionmakers, opinion leaders, practitioners, and education stakeholders across various sectors in more than 100 countries, along with strategic partners of the initiative.
