Kerala governor Sheila Dixit may quit

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Amid reports that she may be shifted to Nagaland Kerala Governor Sheila Dikshit has indicated that she may step down.

She gave hints in this regard while talking to reporters while accompanying President Pranab Kumar Mukherjee to the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple here on Saturday.

She said that she was ready to quit but it will not be under pressure from any quarters. Dikshit who had called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh recently said she had not received any direction from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government to relinquish the post.

“If I resign it will be according to my conscience” she added.

A report in a national daily said that the NDA government had planned to shift Sheila Dikshit to Nagaland following the resignation of Vakkom Purushothaman in the wake of his transfer from Mizoram. The Narendra Modi government has transferred Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal to Mizoram. So far five governors have quit following change of guard in New Delhi.
