Qatar Chairs Meeting on Arab League Reformation


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) HE Qatar Permanent Delegate to the Arab League Saif bin Muqaddam Al-Bueinain chaired on Sunday a meeting for the committee in charge of the reformation of the Arab League held in Cairo to formulate a draft resolution to be presented during the next Arab summit on March 25 in Kuwait. The reformation plan includes four main points. They are: 1) Amending the Arab League charter. 2) The council's work mechanisms. 3) Developing joint Arab economic and social work. 4) Focusing on popular role in enhancing joint Arab work. The resolution will include amendment to the system of the Arab Court of Justice. It also recommends amendment to the mechanism of following up Arab League resolutions. Other recommendations include amendment to the mechanism of monitoring elections in Arab countries and others across the globe. The committee did not reach a conclusion regarding amending the Arab League charter. It asked, however, the member countries to offer their suggestion and present them for discussion in September 2014. Regarding economic and social joint work, the committee recommends restructuring all Arab League organizations specialized in the issue. The committee's recommendations varied from merging to cancelation of a number of organizations. The committee also recommended establishing a new mechanism organizing the providing of humanitarian aid in the Arab World.
