Iran Announces Suspension of Key Train Services After Strike Warnings
(MENAFN) Iran has suspended train operations on major railway lines in Mashhad and Khuzestan provinces Tuesday following warnings from Israel about potential strikes on critical infrastructure, Iranian media reported.
According to media, which cited local officials, all train services on the Mashhad line have been canceled “until further notice.”
The governor of Mashhad stated the suspension was implemented “based on the unethical warning from the Zionist entity (Israel)” and emphasized it was in the interest of public safety.
In southern Iran, a deputy governor of Khuzestan confirmed that train operations on the South and Zagros railway lines have also been halted for the same reasons.
The decision follows an Israeli army advisory urging Iranians to avoid train travel and stay away from train stations nationwide.
Tensions in the region have intensified since Feb. 28, when Israel and the US launched an offensive against Iran, killing more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian authorities have not released updated casualty figures in recent days.
In retaliation, Iran has carried out drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military assets. These attacks have resulted in casualties, damaged infrastructure, and caused disruptions to global markets and aviation.
