U.S. Park Police Officer Hospitalized After Being Shot
(MENAFN) A U.S. Park Police officer was shot Monday night in southeast Washington, D.C., sparking an immediate law enforcement response and temporarily closing off several city blocks to both vehicles and pedestrians.
"We can confirm that a member of U.S. Park Police was shot in the 5000 blk of Queens Stroll Place SE," the D.C. Police Union posted on X.
The officer was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition following the shooting, according to the D.C. Police Union. Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser later provided an updated assessment, stating the officer "was treated for his injuries, which are thankfully non-life threatening."
Authorities cordoned off multiple surrounding blocks in response to the incident, halting both foot and vehicle traffic in the area, local media reported.
Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel confirmed federal involvement in the probe, writing on X: "The FBI is actively supporting the investigation alongside our law enforcement partners and will bring those responsible to justice."
No arrests have been publicly announced as the investigation remains ongoing.
