Kaohly Her Announces Mayoral Run, Emphasizes Safety, Housing, And Economic Growth In Saint Paul
(MENAFN- ForPressRelease)
Saint Paul, MN: Kaohly Vang Her, current State Representative for District 64A and Deputy Speaker Pro Tempore of the Minnesota House, has officially declared her candidacy for Mayor of Saint Paul. With a record of public service, finance expertise, and deep community ties, Her aims to address the city's pressing challenges with inclusive leadership and practical solutions.
Born in Laos, Kaohly Her immigrated to the United States as a refugee at the age of three. Her family eventually settled in Minnesota, where they pursued the opportunities of the American Dream. These early experiences shaped her understanding of resilience, equity, and the importance of a strong social safety net.
Her professional career spans fifteen years in financial services, providing budget analytics, followed by public service roles, including Board Administrator for Saint Paul Public Schools and Policy Director in Mayor Melvin Carter's administration. In the legislature, she has held numerous leadership roles, including Majority Whip and Speaker Pro Tempore, and co-chaired the House Commerce Finance and Policy Committee.
Her campaign is centered on four main priorities:
Safe Communities
Kaohly Her emphasizes building trust with first responders, addressing root causes of crime, and collaborating with county and state partners to ensure every neighborhood feels secure.
Vibrant Economy
Her plans to foster economic growth by supporting local businesses, creating accessible jobs, and responsibly managing city resources, while ensuring development projects benefit the community broadly.
Affordable, Abundant Housing
Understanding the housing challenges faced by families, seniors, and students, Her advocates for partnerships with the county, local independent developers, and larger builders to expand both affordable and market-rate housing options.
Defending Our Neighbors
Reflecting her own immigrant background, Her is committed to protecting the rights and safety of all residents, including immigrant families and marginalized communities. She stresses proactive leadership rather than passive responses to threats against civil rights.
In addition to these priorities, Her points to her legislative achievements as proof of her results-oriented approach. She played a key role in establishing College Savings Accounts for all Saint Paul newborns, championed policies supporting education, public safety, healthcare, housing, reproductive rights, workers' rights, and environmental protections.
"As someone whose life was shaped by the opportunities Saint Paul provided, I am dedicated to giving back to the community that gave me so much," said Her. "I will bring experience, accountability, and collaboration to City Hall to ensure that all residents have access to safe neighborhoods, economic opportunity, and a strong voice in shaping our city's future."

The Saint Paul mayoral election is scheduled for November 4, 2025. Her's candidacy aims to offer voters a forward-looking, practical, and inclusive choice to guide the city's growth and address ongoing challenges effectively.
