Govt Forms Special Cyber Team To Curb Hate Speech On Social Media During Muharram

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) On the directive of the Ministry of Interior, a special team has been established under the National Centre for Crimes and Cyber Investigation (NCCIA) to monitor and prevent hate speech, sectarian content, and incitement on social media during Muharram.

According to the ministry's spokesperson, the team will actively monitor hateful content, misinformation, and religious provocation being spread online and will take legal action against those responsible. The team comprises technical experts, digital analysts, and officers specializing in social media monitoring.

The spokesperson added that maintaining order on social media during Muharram, promoting sectarian harmony, and ensuring peace and security are top priorities of the government.

It is worth noting that Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi recently chaired a key meeting to review the security plan for Muharram across the country.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the federal and provincial governments, as well as officials from Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Islamabad administration.

During the meeting, it was decided that strict action would be taken against those spreading sectarian hatred online.

Additionally, clear recommendations will be sent to PEMRA to prevent the dissemination of hate content on both electronic and social media.

The meeting also concluded that any decision regarding the suspension of internet or mobile services would be made in consultation with the relevant provincial authorities based on security concerns.

The interior minister directed that all such decisions must be made through mutual consultation, keeping in view the ground realities and prevailing conditions.
