UAE Sends Search And Rescue Team To Aid Myanmar Earthquake Victims After 2,000 Lives Lost
The UAE has urgently dispatched a search and rescue team to assist in saving people affected by the earthquake in Myanmar . Efforts have intensified in the Southeast Asian country to find people trapped three days after a massive quake killed around 2,000.
Members from Abu Dhabi Police, the National Guard, and the Joint Operations Command have been dispatched to support efforts to save lives under the directives of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed.
This initiative stems from the UAE's commitment to providing immediate relief to communities suffering from the aftermath of natural disasters anywhere in the world as a gesture of solidarity and brotherhood.

The UAE has consistently been at the forefront of humanitarian aid, demonstrating its dedication to supporting those in need during crises. Its response to the recent earthquake in Myanmar is just one example of this commitment.
The country has played a leading role in numerous relief operations following natural disasters, conflicts, and other emergencies.
After Typhoon Haiyan devastated parts of the Philippines in 2013, the UAE sent aid, including food, water, and medical supplies , to help the recovery efforts. The UAE had announced $10 million humanitarian aid to support victims of super typhoon.
After the devastating earthquake in Nepal in 2025, the UAE dispatched emergency teams and provided financial aid, medical supplies, and shelter to the affected population.
Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria devastated the region in 2023, causing at least 4,000 deaths and unimaginable destruction in the area. Buildings were flattened, trapping people under the rubble and forcing rescuers to try and dig them out with their bare hands.
The UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, ordered the provision of $100 million for the relief of those affected. The President then directed that a search-and-rescue team be dispatched to help people affected by the earthquake in Turkey. A field hospital has also been established to help the victims in Turkey was also set up.
During the crisis in Lebanon in 2024, an aircraft carrying UAE aid delivered urgent relief packages to Lebanese refugees in Syria and to Syrians returning to their country. The medical supplies dispatched were part of the UAE's continuous humanitarian support and a key component of the 'UAE Stands with Lebanon' national campaign.
Prior to this, UAE President had ordered an urgent relief aid package worth $100 million as part of the state's efforts to support and assist the Lebanese people.
The UAE has been at the forefront of international humanitarian aid to Gaza, contributing more than 50 per cent of all relief efforts. Through Operation Gallant Knight 3, the UAE has sent over 60,000 tonnes of aid, including food, shelter, and medical supplies.
In January this year, the UAE rolled out the largest phase of its Gaza humanitarian initiative. This relief operation targeted the largest gathering of displaced people in southern Gaza, near Al Aqsa University in Khan Yunis.
Till January, the humanitarian aid delivered to Gaza by the UAE via land has amounted to approximately 29,584 tonnes.
