Chinese news agency says cyberattacks on DeepSeek originated in US
(MENAFN) On Thursday, Chinese press stated that crucial and continued cyberattacks on China’s AI model DeepSeek stemmed from the US.
The South China Morning Post announced on Thursday, citing Yuyuan Tantian, a CCTV social media account, the cyberattack on DeepSeek started on 3rd of January and reached its peak on Monday and Tuesday with a huge brute-force attack from US IP addresses.
A cybersecurity specialist declared to China’s CCTV that “all the attack IPs were recorded; all are from the US.”
The initial phase of the cyberattack involved additional distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks focused on interrupting DeepSeek's regular operations through overloading its servers and bandwidth with a stream of internet traffic, while the latest attacks were mainly brute-force attacks focused on breaking user IDs and passwords to analyze how DeepSeek functions, CCTV announced, quoting a statement from China's cybersecurity firm QAX Technology Group.
Apart from this, US leader Donald Trump’s Commerce Secretary nominee, Howard Lutnick, claimed on Wednesday that DeepSeek had abused US technology.
