South Korea asks for information on DeepSeek's data collection practices
(MENAFN) On Friday, South Korea required a clarification from China’s advanced AI model DeepSeek regarding personal data collection policy.
The Korean Personal Information Protection Commission is arranging to send a formal investigation to DeepSeek’s main office in Hangzhou, the capital of the eastern coastal province of Zhejiang, in order to gather details on the fresh firm’s policy regarding personal data collection as well as the way this data is used for AI training, as per Seoul-based Yonhap News.
As published by Yonhap News, a representative stated, “depending on the response, we will take further steps such as a fact-finding review or an investigation if necessary."
Apart from that, Japanese premier Shigeru Ishiba made further calls on Friday to impose a legislation to "reduce the risks, dangers" resulting from the use of AI, the news agency stated.
Taiwan further stated on Friday that DeepSeek is going to be prohibited in government bodies to secure their data and information. The Digital Affairs Ministry announced that DeepSeek AI was a Chinese-made application and its activities were a "security concern."
