UN rapporteur for human rights in Palestinian states Israel is aiming to deport Palestinians

(MENAFN) Francesca Albanese, the UN rapporteur for human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, has stated that Israel is aiming to deport Palestinians, describing the country’s actions as highly serious. Her comments come amid the intensifying Israeli military operations in the northern occupied West Bank. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Albanese emphasized that Israel is systematically emptying the Jenin camp in the northern West Bank, and she stressed the importance of not distinguishing between the West Bank and East Jerusalem when addressing human rights violations.

The Israeli Occupation forces launched a large-scale offensive on Jenin on the third day following the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. This military operation is part of what Israel has called “Iron Fence,” following over 15 months of violence against Palestinians in Gaza. Jenin's governor, Kamal Abu Al-Rub, compared the destruction in the camp to the explosions of residential blocks in Gaza, noting that Sunday’s bombings marked the first such attack in more than two decades. He claimed that the occupation forces are working to make the camp uninhabitable by demolishing homes and destroying essential infrastructure.

On Sunday, sources reported that Israeli forces detonated an entire residential block in Jenin, with the Israeli military confirming the destruction of 20 buildings in the camp’s Al-Damj neighborhood. Additionally, Israel announced plans to expand its operations to five new villages. Albanese, deeply concerned about the situation in the West Bank, expressed her belief that Israel is aggressively targeting Palestinians and trying to seize their land. She warned that the destruction of Palestinians will not be confined to Gaza and will extend to the West Bank as well.

Earlier in November, Albanese condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling him a war criminal and emphasizing Israel’s responsibility for committing acts of extermination against the Palestinian people. On November 21, 2024, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Galant for their involvement in war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. The UN rapporteur also expressed her shock at the lack of intervention from Arab countries in supporting the Palestinian cause, although she commended Libya's efforts in this regard. In July, the International Court of Justice called on Israel to end its occupation of Palestinian territories seized after 1967, urging the cessation of measures that cause demographic or geographical changes, and reaffirming the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.
