HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani emphasised the significance of all parties' commitment to implementing the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip in all its provisions, calling for immediate engagement in the negotiations of the second phase of the agreement and setting an agenda.
In a joint press conference Sunday with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye Hakan Fidan, HE Sheikh Mohammed stressed the importance of consolidating the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and moving forward with the exchange of hostages and prisoners, noting that this is the only means that can achieve a result in this framework.
He said that Qatar urges its partners in the international community to continue to pressure to ensure the success of the ceasefire negotiations and to stress that no party will be allowed to obstruct them, so that this window, which has no alternative, is not closed. He noted the continued cooperation of Qatar with partners in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the US to ensure the agreement's full implementation.
HE Sheikh Mohammed added that Qatar looks forward to intensifying regional and international efforts to provide humanitarian aid and support the UN in bringing in and delivering aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip. He underlined the need not to obstruct the entry of any type of aid and to thwart all attempts that aim to make the Gaza Strip uninhabitable.
HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the importance of having a clear mechanism by the international community and its institutions, including the UN, to ensure that this aid is provided to those who deserve it and that it is not obstructed by the Israeli forces.
HE Sheikh Mohammed noted that the Qatari humanitarian aid supply chains to the brethren in the Gaza Strip have not stopped since the first hours of the ceasefire, urging the international community to further cooperate and unite to bring in the aid that the Palestinian people in Gaza "desperately" need.
He stressed that this crisis will not end except by ending the occupation and establishing the Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, in accordance with international resolutions. He noted that what the world has witnessed during the past days of tragedy and human suffering of the brethren in the Gaza Strip is beyond description.
HE the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the meeting with Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs comes in light of the important and strategic developments that the region is going through, and is linked to several files of common interest between Qatar and Turkiye. The meeting dealt with the developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and Syria, and the discussions came as a continuation of communication and joint coordination between the two countries.
Regarding the situation in Syria, he noted Qatar's welcome of the steps taken by the Syrian state to restructure it and enhance consensus and unity among all Syrian parties, which paves the way for consolidating civil peace, security and stability, contributes to building a state of law and institutions, and achieves development and prosperity.
He emphasised the urgent need for lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria due to their negative effects in exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and hindering the provision of basic needs.
HE Sheikh Mohammed pointed out that during the discussions, the various efforts made by Qatar in Syria were discussed, such as the ongoing technical support for the operation of Damascus International Airport, and the agreement to provide support for the electricity sector, in addition to the ongoing airlift to provide relief to Syrian brothers.
HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the shared positions between Qatar and Turkiye and their ongoing support for the Syrian people in their struggle for freedom, dignity, and justice. He expressed his appreciation for the continuous coordination between the two countries in various efforts and initiatives aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region.
He noted that both Qatar and Turkiye agreed on the necessity of supporting Syria and its new leadership during this crucial phase of state-building and establishing stability, ensuring a safe transition, especially on humanitarian and economic fronts.
He pointed out that the discussions included the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, its recent developments, and the Israeli occupation army's violations in the West Bank, emphasizing the importance of the international community assuming its responsibilities.
HE Sheikh Mohammed expressed his appreciation for Turkiye's support for the people of Gaza, whether through humanitarian aid and support or continuous assistance in helping and treating the wounded and sick from the Strip.
He stated that the talks addressed the close and strategic relations between Qatar and Turkiye, emphasizing the importance of following up on all outcomes of the Joint Strategic Committee, chaired by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and President of the Republic of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan in November, where the leaders underscored building on the significant achievements and enhancing them for the benefit of both peoples and the region.
Regarding recent statements by US President Donald Trump about relocating Palestinians from Gaza to other countries, he clarified that Qatar's position is firm and clear against the displacement of the Palestinian people.
He added that Qatar is in contact with the US administration, expressing hope there will be no issues of disagreement. He also expressed optimism for swift positive results to end the war.
Concerning the deported Palestinian prisoners who were released as part of the agreement, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs explained that this was part of the agreement reached by the parties, noting that several countries will host the released Palestinian prisoners.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan praised the strong and fraternal relations between Qatar and Turkiye, built on brotherhood, sincerity, and mutual respect, contributing to regional security and stability.
During the joint press conference, he stated that the two countries' bilateral relations are not just trade, economic, and political but also based on cooperation in solving regional problems.
He added that the discussions with HE Sheikh Mohammed focused on how to assist and coordinate regarding Syria and the necessary support for its reconstruction, expressing thanks and gratitude to Qatar for its interest in addressing Syria's issues, particularly energy.
He emphasized the need to lift international sanctions on Syria, ensure security and stability, combat terrorism without bloodshed, and integrate armed groups under the Syrian National Army, highlighting the importance of recent developments in Syria and the announcement of a new president.
The Turkish Foreign Minister appreciated Qatar's efforts in achieving the Gaza ceasefire, noting the significant endeavors made by Qatar to reach this agreement.
He said that maintaining the Gaza ceasefire is a priority for Turkiye and it must be sustainable without violations, stressing the necessity to remove Israeli obstacles to delivering aid to Gaza.
He added that the Palestinian-Israeli conflicts will continue unless the Palestinian issue is resolved with a two-state solution, calling for confronting the project of displacing Palestinians from Gaza, which contradicts international law and human rights.
