EU Reiterates Its Concerns Over Israeli Legislation Targeting UNRWA

BRUSSELS, Feb 2 (KUNA) -- The European Union (EU) reiterated on Sunday its concern over the significant consequences of Israeli Occupation legislation on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) for its operations in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza.
The EU condemned in a statement any attempt to abrogate the 1967 agreement between Israel and UNRWA or any other attempt to obstruct UNRWA's ability to carry out its mandate.
The European Union emphasized that the United Nations and its agencies, particularly UNRWA, provide vital support to the civilian population in Gaza, the West Bank, and across the region, including Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan.
It stressed that the provision of essential services to Palestinian refugees becomes even more critical "in light of the urgent need to implement the ceasefire and release of hostages agreement."
The EU reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting the agency to enable it to fulfill its mandate. (end)
