(MENAFN) On Tuesday morning, US law enforcement agents conducted a series of pre-dawn raids across New York City, targeting illegal immigrants suspected of violent crimes. The operation was overseen by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who took charge on her fourth day in office.
Noem shared updates on social media, stating that the mission was part of fulfilling President Donald Trump's promise to make American streets safer. Heavily armed officers from various agencies, including Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Immigration and customs Enforcement (ICE), the Secret Service, DEA, US Marshals, and the NYPD Special Operations unit, participated in the raids.
Among those detained was an individual charged with kidnapping, assault, and burglary, as well as 25-year-old Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco, identified as the leader of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, which has been accused of terrorizing Colorado residents. Authorities stormed his Bronx apartment, where he had been living for months, and arrested him in connection with multiple criminal activities, including kidnapping and burglary.
This raid comes as part of a broader crackdown on illegal immigration, with Trump’s administration focusing on closing the US-Mexico border and deporting convicted criminals. The US also recently pressured Colombia to accept the return of criminals, threatening sanctions and tariffs when the country initially resisted a repatriation flight.
