KABUL (Pajhwok): Some people believed that wearing jewellery with certain precious stones, in addition to adding to their beauty, was eye-catching and had healing effects, but experts said that no scientific research had been conducted on this so far.
In Afghanistan, various precious stones such as emerald, ruby, turquoise, lapis lazuli, ruby, turquoise etc. are found, and goldsmiths use them to make rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets and other items.
Believes behind the use of precious stones
Naikbakht, a resident of the capital Kabul at a jewellery shop, told Pajhwok Afghan News:“I come here today to purchase a turquoise ring for my son, I think it is good, when silver is pure it is good for all things.”
He said besides the use of turquoise, agate and lapis lazuli have positive effects and prevents people from illness.
He wore two rings of turquoise and agate in his fingers said:“If a person does not have silver with agate in his hand or neck, his life is definitely bad. However, if the same silver is pure and is in his neck or hand, it gives the feelings of lightness to some extent.”
Rohullah Mohammadi, another resident of Kabul who also visited a jewellery shop, said:“We came to buy a gold ring with an emerald gem. One of the reasons I am interested in Panjshir emeralds is that they come from our own homeland, Afghanistan, and have great global value. Apart from these rumors, they have very good natural properties for the body.”
He said:“Its benefits are not immediately visible, but in the long run we will realize that it removes negative energies from the body and improves the mentality.”
Mohammadi said When a person has a nice and expensive ring in their hand, they feel good, enjoy its beauty, and are noticed and attracted by other people.
Najla, another resident of the capital Kabul, said:“When I wore a ring with genuine agate gemstone, God's blessings increased for me and brought more blessings into my life.”
Precious stones are as effective as herbals plants: Jewelers
Fahim Naeemi, one of the jewellers in the capital Kabul, said although he graduated in social sciences and gemology is not his field, but he studied it due to his interest in gemstones
He said:“Just as plants and herbs are healing, gemstones are also healing, stones also have their own properties and characteristics, because they are made of composition, these compositions have healing properties.”
He said stones are divided into three categories - precious stones, semi-precious stones and ornamental stones.
Precious stones, including diamonds, rubies, emeralds, turquoise, and lapis lazuli, are composed of aluminum oxide crystals, he added
Naeemi for example said:“The gases released from emeralds cause the arteries of the heart to open up. Agate is used to heal wounds because it heals wounds quickly, and agate is also considered anti-eye view. Lapis lazuli has the property of collecting rays and prevents X-rays from reaching humans.”
He added:“Turquoise is an Arabic word. Turquoise means victory, success, and whoever uses turquoise will benefit from it in their income and business.”
Referring to diamond he said It is one of the most precious stones in the world. It refreshes the human soul. The person who buys it boasts that he has a diamond, and this boasting makes his soul fresh and cheerful.
Experts' views:
Eng. Mohammad Rahim Samim, an expert Science Academy, said the belief in the healing properties of stones is more prevalent in one of the neighboring countries and has existed among people for thousands of years.

Dr. Sayed Farid Shah Rafai, an expert of internal diseases in the Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Hospital, said:“There is no scientific research or scientific theory about the effects of stones on health, and this has not been proven medically, but in traditional or ancient medicine this has been said and recommended, perhaps it has been experienced, and someone has concluded that they recommend this.”
The source said:“Some stones may have an effect on various systems of the body, on the human spirit and psyche, bring peace and reassurance, and have a so-called medical, suggestive effect.”
Sharafuddin Azimi, a psychologist regarding the health benefits of precious stones, said:“There is no specific scientific evidence or research on this matter, and some research that took place was not result-ordinated.”
Referring to the positive impact of some precious stones, he said:“People can use stones for their relaxation, but this is their personal opinion, claims regarding health benefits needed more research and unfortunately there is no scientific evidence in this regard.”
Religious Scholar Noorullah Kawsar, said:“Different believes of people that precious stones are beneficial and have health advantages of other blessings were against Sharia Law and rejected.”
