Tajikistan Actively Promoting Expansion Of Renewable Energy Usage - Ministry

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 29. Tajikistan is actively promoting the expansion of renewable energy usage, head of the investment Department at the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Naim Rahimzoda said, Trend reports.

He made the statement during a regional seminar on enhancing the sustainability and investment appeal of hydropower projects.

"Over 95 percent of our country's electricity is generated from hydropower. This stems from Tajikistan's significant hydropower potential, which stands at 527 billion kilowatt-hours annually, surpassing the total hydropower potential of the entire region at 400 billion kilowatt-hours. To date, only about 5 percent of this potential has been harnessed. Nonetheless, Tajikistan is committed to further expanding renewable energy usage," Rahimzoda said.

The seminar featured representatives from the Tajik-Uzbek TAUZ Hydro company, Pamir Energy from Tajikistan, Tajikhydroelektromontazh, the Swiss Cooperation Office in Tajikistan, and the Hydropower Sustainability Alliance (HAS).

Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon, speaking online at the Third Summit of the Voice of the Global South in August 2024, announced that Tajikistan plans to fully establish electricity production using renewable energy resources and aims to transform the country into a "green" nation by 2037.
