BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 4. Increasing the
potential of the Middle Corridor and development of the
Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway project were the focus of the
meeting between Minister of Digital Development and Transport
Rashad Nabiyev and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of
Türkiye Abdulkadir Uraloglu, the statement of the Azerbaijani
Ministry of Digital Development and Transport said, Trend reports.
“Minister Rashad Nabiyev is on a working trip to Türkiye. At the
meeting with his Turkish counterpart, the two countries discussed
cooperation in the field of transportation, joint work on
increasing the potential of the Middle Corridor, and development of
the BTK,” the statement reads.
The Middle Corridor has been in the works for a decade, really
hitting its stride in the last couple of years.
A total of 2.7 million tons of cargo passed through it in 2023,
and in 2024 the freight plan is 4.2 million tons.
While BTK is a key player in the Middle Corridor, in spring
2024, it hit the ground running with a five-fold boost in capacity,
jumping from 1 million tons to a whopping 5 million tons of cargo
per year.
