Use Of Depleted Fields For Geothermal Energy Poses Key To Energy Shift - Head Of Agency

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 2. The use of depleted oil and gas fields for geothermal energy is becoming an important aspect in the transition to new types of energy, Head of Hydrogen and Green Technologies Direction of Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency Rana Humbatova said, Trend reports.

She claimed it at a panel discussion on“Meeting the Just Transition Challenge for the Oil & Gas Sector” within the framework of the third day of the international conference at the Climate Action Week in Baku.

“The use of depleted oil and gas sources for geothermal energy is becoming significant in the energy transition. The matter of hydrogen production is currently under scrutiny. Historically, hydrogen was generated from natural gas and primarily utilized in oil refineries for the purification of diesel fuel and gasoline. This is referred to as gray hydrogen, which, despite its efficiency, must be supplanted by green hydrogen derived from renewable energy sources under contemporary conditions,” she noted.
