Kazakhstan, IMF Discuss Co-Op Plans For Near Future


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 1. Kazakhstan and International Monetary Fund (IMF) discussed cooperation plans for the near and medium term, Trend reports.

The matter was reviewed during a meeting between Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Economy Nurlan Baibazarov with the head of the IMF mission in Kazakhstan Nicolas Blanchet.

Within the framework of the regular visit to Kazakhstan, the IMF mission held a number of meetings with key government bodies, including the Parliament, the National Bank, the Ministry of National Economy, the Ministry of Finance and other stakeholders.

The parties discussed the current economic situation, ongoing reforms and measures taken by Kazakhstan to ensure sustainable economic growth. The IMF gave recommendations on the priority directions of the economic policy development.

Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister noted the continued growth of the economy and its acceleration up to 3.7 percent from January through August 2024. He also noted the country's work to improve the effectiveness of budget policy, improve tax legislation, enhance investment attractiveness and development of entrepreneurship. At the same time, the representatives of the IMF noted the need to continue structural reforms in the economy to reach a sustainable 6 percent growth.

Earlier, Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and IMF's Deputy Managing Director Bo Li have discussed financial and economic cooperation.

During the meeting, the strategic nature of Kazakhstan's relationship with the IMF was highlighted. The sides noted the positive outcomes of their collaboration, which has supported structural reforms, tax and budget policy development, and the growth of Kazakhstan's financial markets.
