Countries issue urgent travel advisories amid escalating tensions between Israel, Hezbollah

(MENAFN) On Sunday, several countries, including the US, UK, France, Germany, and Norway, issued urgent travel advisories due to escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. This escalation follows a recent rocket strike in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, which has heightened concerns about potential military actions and further conflict in the region.

The US Embassy in Lebanon advised American citizens to "monitor their flight status closely," as travel conditions may change with little notice. The embassy highlighted the "complex and rapidly changing" security environment in Lebanon and recommended that travelers reconsider their plans. American citizens were also encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive timely updates and facilitate location tracking in emergencies.

In response to the situation, the French government condemned the recent rocket attack on Majdal Shams, a town in the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan Heights. France expressed condolences to the victims' families, including many minors, and called for measures to prevent further military escalation. The French government reiterated its advice for nationals to avoid travel to Lebanon, Israel, or the Palestinian Territories.

The UK Foreign Office updated its travel advisory to urge British nationals to exercise extreme caution and avoid "all travel to Lebanon." Similarly, the Norwegian Embassy in Beirut warned of the escalating conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, while Germany advised its citizens to leave Lebanon immediately. The German advisory cited the volatile security situation and the possibility of worsening conditions that could complicate travel out of Lebanon.

Overall, these advisories reflect a significant concern among international governments about the safety of their citizens amidst the rising tensions and potential for further conflict in the region.
