(MENAFN) Jordan's Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) has recently achieved significant successes in combating drug trafficking, as reported by the Petra news agency. In a series of well-coordinated operations, AND agents have dismantled two major drug smuggling rings, seizing a total of 600,000 narcotic pills and arresting 12 individuals involved in these illicit activities. These operations highlight the department's ongoing commitment to addressing the challenges posed by drug trafficking in the region.
In the first operation, AND officials intercepted a large shipment of 400,000 narcotic pills that were being smuggled into Jordan. The smugglers had intended to transport these drugs to a neighboring country, but their plans were thwarted by the authorities. The successful interception led to the arrest of both individuals involved in this attempt, underscoring the effectiveness of the department's vigilance and surveillance capabilities.
In a separate, targeted operation, authorities acted on intelligence regarding a pair of smugglers who were concealing drugs within a cargo vehicle. Following detailed surveillance, AND agents apprehended the suspects in the Zarqa Governorate, where they discovered 200,000 pills hidden in a concealed compartment of the vehicle. The arrest took place as the suspects neared a border crossing, marking a significant blow to their smuggling efforts and reflecting the department's strategic approach to drug enforcement.
Additionally, a strategic crackdown in the central Badia region resulted in the detention of four high-profile individuals, including two classified as highly dangerous. This operation, supported by a special unit, led to the seizure of a variety of narcotics, including pills, hashish, and cocaine. Furthermore, AND officers conducted raids on two neighboring houses in the Balqa Governorate, which were identified as illegal drug distribution centers. These raids resulted in the arrest of several suspects and the confiscation of 12,000 pills, further disrupting the local drug trade.
