Cabinet Approves Decisions To Regulate Legal Sector

Amman, July 28 (Petra) - A Cabinet session held Sunday, headed by Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Khasawneh, decided to approve the mandating reasons for the draft legal Aid Bylaw in Jordan Bar Association (JBA) for the year 2024, and referred it to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau to complete the procedures for issuing it according to the rules in force.
The regulation aims to enhance the society's confidence in the rule of law by "institutionalizing" the Kingdom's legal aid system, which would now be provided "free of charge" and "comprehensively" cover all people, who need it.
The system also streamlines access to justice and achieves mission of the legal profession by providing related aid and achieve the principle of legal and judicial security.
In a related context, Council of Ministers decided to greenlight the validating reasons for the draft Bylaw of Institute for Training Regular Lawyers for the year 2024.
This bylaw aims to develop training packages designed for the legal profession, raise level of professional performance of trainee lawyers, and implement provisions of Article (26) of the JBA Law, which requires establishment of an institute to train lawyers to practice the legal profession.
On another note, the Council decided to terminate services of the Deputy Chairman of Petra Development Tourism Regional Authority (PDTRA) and Commissioner of Reserve Management, Dr. Ismail Abu Amoud, and appoint a member of the authority's Board of Commissioners, Hamza Oliani, as his successor.
The Cabinet also decided to terminate services of the Director General of National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), Amjad Rawashdeh, and appoint Sufyan Bataineh, as his successor.
