Four get murdered, dozens wounded as 12 train instructors disrupted in India

(MENAFN) A tragic train derailment in Uttar Pradesh, India, on Thursday resulted in the deaths of four people and left dozens more injured. The accident, which involved 12 train coaches going off the tracks, has prompted a significant emergency response. Rescue teams and local villagers are working together to assist the injured and manage the aftermath of the derailment.

The train, traveling from Dibrugarh in Assam to Chandigarh in Punjab, encountered the disaster while en route. Emergency services, including ambulances, were promptly deployed to the scene in Gonda district, where survivors were seen in distress next to the overturned coaches in footage circulated online. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasized the urgency of transporting the injured to hospitals and ensuring they receive appropriate medical care. He also announced that a high-level inquiry into the incident has been initiated, as reported by The Hindu.

In response to the derailment, all trains scheduled to travel the same route have been either rerouted or canceled. The Railway Ministry has pledged to provide compensation to the victims and the families of those who lost their lives.

The accident has drawn sharp criticism from the Indian opposition. Mallikarjun Kharge, president of the Indian National Congress, condemned the government’s handling of rail safety, calling the incident “yet another instance” of systemic neglect. He has urged the federal government to implement the ‘Kavach anti-collision system’ across all routes to prevent future tragedies.
