Trump assaulter uses drone over rally site

(MENAFN) Thomas Matthew Crooks, the gunman who attempted to assassinate former United States President Donald trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, was reported by the Wall Street Journal to have used a drone to survey the event location in advance. According to anonymous law enforcement sources, Crooks conducted multiple drone flights over the rally site hours before the attack, capturing aerial footage of the venue. His reconnaissance efforts likely began shortly after the rally was announced, with Crooks registering for the event on July 7 and visiting the site shortly thereafter.

In addition to his on-site surveillance, Crooks is reported to have extensively researched other Trump rally dates and gathered information about Joe Biden and the upcoming Democratic convention. This information has raised concerns about the adequacy of security measures at the rally and the effectiveness of the Secret Service in protecting the former president.

The attack itself was narrowly thwarted; Crooks fired at least six shots at Trump before being neutralized by a counter-sniper team. Trump survived the attempt with a bullet grazing his ear, while one attendee was killed and two others were critically injured. The incident highlights both the detailed planning by the assailant and the potential lapses in security surrounding high-profile events.
