America worries over possible Russian reaction to missile placement in Germany

(MENAFN) The United States State Department has voiced apprehension regarding Russia's potential response to Washington's plans to deploy nuclear missiles to Germany. This concern follows recent announcements from the United States and Germany about initiating “episodic deployments” of long-range missile capabilities in Europe, set to commence in 2026. In reaction, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has indicated that Moscow may consider a range of responses, including the possible use of nuclear warheads.

State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel addressed these concerns during a press briefing on Thursday, expressing unease over Russia's rhetoric. Patel emphasized that any discussions or actions related to the use or deployment of nuclear weapons are taken seriously and warrant close attention. He refrained from making further speculations about Russia's potential actions but acknowledged that such rhetoric is concerning.

Earlier, Ryabkov had stated that Russia would not place any internal limits on its response to the United States missile deployment and might explore a broad spectrum of options, including equipping missile systems with nuclear warheads. He criticized the West for using what he described as “trumped-up pretexts” and false claims to escalate tensions, asserting that while regrettable, such provocations would not deter Russia from protecting its national security.

The United States-German joint press release from July 10 detailed that the US plans to begin these episodic missile deployments in Germany as part of its Multi-Domain Task Force operations starting in 2026.
