Israeli overnight airstrikes kill over 17 in Gaza Nuseirat camp

(MENAFN) On Sunday morning, Palestinian media reported that at least 17 Palestinians were killed in overnight strikes across Gaza, which primarily targeted refugee camps. According to the official Wafa news agency, fifteen of these fatalities occurred in Israeli attacks on homes and commercial buildings in the Bureij and Khan Younis refugee camps. Additionally, at least two people, including a child, were killed in strikes on Nuseirat refugee camp.

The bombardment on Nuseirat was described as "intense," with reports of artillery shelling near the camp's power station and various missiles fired from drones. Social media footage showed the multistorey residential tower in Nuseirat being bombed as drones flew overhead, and at least five people were wounded in the attack.

Since Saturday morning, at least 60 people have been killed across Gaza. Gaza's Health Ministry reported that nearly 39,000 Palestinians have been killed and 90,000 wounded since the conflict began in October. There have also been casualties in the occupied West Bank and Lebanon, where Israel has been bombing southern areas daily since clashes with Hezbollah started in October.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing for a visit to Washington, where he is scheduled to address Congress on Wednesday. He will meet with President Joe Biden on Tuesday. Netanyahu's visit comes amid ongoing anti-government protests in Israel, with demonstrators calling for a ceasefire deal with Hamas before his departure for the US.
